Dose anyone have any ideas on how to make a fish trap make out of household items?
Hi, im going to Florida for my christmas im leaving christmas night and im going on vacation there.I decided since my grandma who is taking me she owns a camp site and were staying in her rv but anyways she has a pond in her backyard and i wanted to do some fishing in the pond there’s alligators and many fish and i just wanted to know if you had any ideas on fish traps something i can put in the water and not have to watch i already made 1 fish trap i took water bottles and tied 5 of them to geather then put hooks on the end of each bottle but i need another one please help me asap thanks, zach
I’m glad you asked that question. A year before he passed away back in the late 80s my granddad taught me how make a fish trap for catfish. I haven’t made once since I fished with him but it was darn effective back then and I’m sure it still is. This may or may not be the right design for you, but feel free to improvise on this design from an old-timer who knew how to most effectively catch fish on his own lake.
You need a roll of chicken wire about 3-4′ tall. Roll it into a cylinder that has a diameter about half its length or less and cut it off, bending the ends to lock it into place. One one end, cut out a circle and bend the wires so that it’s blocked off. On the other end, taper a funnel from another piece of chicken wire to about eight inches, with the opening pointed in, so that fish can swim in easily but can’t swim out. Inside the trap, fill a sock with cat food or liver and knot it, and secure it to the inside. Tie a rope, throw it in the channel or a deep place, and let it sit for a few hours or over night. When you pull it up the next morning it will be full of fish and turtles. You should also check your local fishing regulations to make sure this is legal, because many of the tricks those old timers used are so effective they aren’t looked on favorably by the DNR these days.
