Excel- Is it possible to create a custom date- in one cell- that uses 2 different font sizes + wrapped text?
I am trying to re-create a “steno” type calendar that at-a-glance no longer sells.
Column A needs to display the calendar date using centered text. I am using the custom date code of “dddd d” This is forcing the date to format correctly, but I need the text to display differently. In each cell of column A, I need the Day of the week on one line, then on a second line or wrapped line, I need the Date to show up in a much larger font.
I might want to add that regardless of how I might need to lay this out and format the dates in Column A, I need 4 rows for each date in Column B. That way, I’ve got one big date on the left side with 4 rows to write appointments and notes on.
I hope you can visualize this. My mother-in-law has used a calendar like this for years and they’ve stopped making them.
The answer to your opening question is probably no, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t get what you want. Try this.
Using an extra worksheet start by setting up what you want to see for one day.
You will use four rows.
Select cells A1 & A2 and format them as merged cells with the font and alignment you want for the day of the week and the custom date code “dddd”.
Select cells A3 & A4 and format them as merged cells with the format and alignment you want for the date and the custom date code “d”.
Select all four cells and set the borders you want.
Set the column widths and row heights you want.
Select the cells that will be the appointments and notes lines and set borders for them
Use print preview to show you how it will look printed and how you are on fitting the page. If the notes lines don’t show in the preview, it is because you made the column to wide. When you close the preview you will see a vertical dashed line that indicates the vertical page break and you can adjust your column width to the maximum that will fit across the page.
Select all of the cells you just formatted > Ctrl-c > cell A5 > Ctrl-v to copy the first day to a second day.
In cell A3 enter =A1, in cell A5 enter =A1+1, and in cell A7 enter =A5
Now you have a template. To create a calendar page copy the eight rows to the top left most cell where you want the calendar to be and copy the fifth through eighth rows down as far as you want. Then enter the start date of a formula for it in the top left most cell of the calendar and your calendar should be ready to print.
You could also save a workbook with only the template worksheet in it as an .xlt template file if you are familiar with using them.
Also consider adding a row or two at the top for a title that includes a date to be entered that could be used in a formula to set your calendar start date.
