Cork Rings
Which side of a coaster is the glass put on?
I bought some cute coasters in hopes of avoiding water rings on my furniture. It makes sense that the cute side goes up but I thought the cork side should go up to absorb the water. A friend told me the cork side goes down to prevent the coaster from sliding around or scratching the furniture surface. How are they used?
Cork does not absorb water. Thats why old fishing bobbers were made of cork. Your friend is correct.
