Which is better flying fishing or spin casting for trout?

The absolute best is what ever gives you the most pleasure. I have been trout fishing all my life and up until 2 months ago had never tried fly fishing. I have always been a spin cast type. I was interested in fly fishing but never pursued it until a short time ago. I signed up for a casting class sponsored by the Sierra Pacific Fly fishers and spent 3 Saturdays attempting to learn the art of fly casting. I am hooked on this, so much so that I joined the club so that I can learn more.

I think that learning about fly fishing will make me a better trout fisherman overall just from learning to read the water better and analyzing the conditions. I am looking forward to hooking my first fish on a fly rod, but will not give up my old ways, and will love both ways of fishing.

Editorial: Guess I’m about to start another conflict, somebody pushed a wrong button.(remember the Ugly Stick War?) To me fishing is about having fun and escaping to a different environment, even for a short time, other than the day to day life that we are usually stuck with. If I can go and spend a day exploring and trying something new in fishing it’s a great day, if I catch a fish that’s a bonus. My day fishing is not made by the number of fish I catch or the trophies on the wall or how full my freezer is. If that were my motivation I would take up knitting, once I learn I will get the same result and will be a success every time.(Talk about ARROGANCE)
