Oil Cap Missing! Is there something I can put on it until my new one is shipped?
My oil cap is missing, tried to get another one and they have to order it. It will be here within 2-3 days, but is there something I can put on there until I get it. I really can’t miss anymore work and I need a car to get there. Please help!
Thanks for the responses. My car is a Suzuki Forenza (I know, a bad mistake). I’ve called several stores and they all are telling me they have to order one for me.
On some cars the oil cap and gas cap are the same size so you can use your gas cap in an emergency situation.
This will trigger the Check Engine Light in most modern vehicles but I’d rather have a CEL on as opposed to having oil spraying all over the hood and engine (if the oil cap is directly over the timing chain) and/or possibly contaminating the oil/damaging the engine because something fell in through the uncovered hole.
The post above is correct though. Try to pick up a generic oil cap at an auto parts store. Why take a needless chance…
