Bulb Squid
Strange animal with a white bulb shaped body and large purple, anchor maybe? slug? what is it?
I found a strange animal in the ground that looks almost like a snail without a shell. its main “body” is a spherical white ball that is very hard but is soft on the outside with a thick coat of slime. Extending down in to the ground from it is a purple something that anchored it in to the ground at the bottom and all that I could see sticking up was the top of the bulb type thing. The anchor type thing was firmly in the ground and is almost dry and wrinkly. the bulb was loose with a small gap between it and the surrounding dirt. The purple thing has a hole going in to the body which appears to be a mouth mayby. the whole thing looks almost like a squid but without tenticles. I found it next to a small reservoir lake in dirt very close to the water. It may have surfaced or something because in the past week we have had very heavy rain making mud everywhere. I live in the mid-plains region. I do not have a picture of what it looks like. thanks if you can help.
You don’t mention size, but it sounds like a snail – maybe an ear pond snail.
