American Fishing
How would a South American Needle fish (Xenentodon cancila) do in a brackish aquarium?
I have seen these fish at a local pet store and done a fair amount of research on them but cannot find anything about them and their tolerance to brackish environments other than “Some species of needle fish are brackish or marine” if anyone can shed some light on the situation I would appreciate it!
You are correct, most species actually live in a marine environment, as such this species can live in brackish water, but they do perfectly well in fresh water, I have kept this species before in fresh water with out any problems.
By the way, I use to feed mine live brackish water ghost shrimps, so they can be quite expensive to maintain, you may be able to ween them onto prawn later on, thats what I have done with my most of my fish now, but it does take time, unless you are lucky and they except it straightaway, you should ask your dealer what they are feeding theirs.
