Briquetting machines and systems are designed to significantly reduce the volume of waste materials including wood, paper, plastics, metals, and more. Metal briquetting presses are specifically designed for compacting and making maximum use of metal waste including cast iron, aluminum, copper, steel, brass, zinc, bronze, titanium, magnesium, as well as a variety of other machining scraps.

These machines use very high pressures to reduce the volume of chipped or ground materials into a high density solid briquette. The high pressure reached in the compression chamber makes the density of the resulting briquette close to the density of the original metal itself – in many instances higher than the density of the metal in bulk.

Besides drastically reducing the volume of the machining scraps, the machines create briquettes that, in most cases, can be placed directly in smelting furnaces. The final product is a perfectly round cylinder that can be stored or transported at a highly reduced cost. This results in great economic benefits for companies that sell metal waste, for smelters that recycle metal scraps, and for foundries that re-process the scraps internally.

The design of the machine makes it possible for all lubricants, cutting fluids, emulsifying agents to be expelled during the metal scrap briquetting process and conveyed to a single collection point. From there these fluids are recovered for further storing, recovering, or disposal. Since these fluids that contaminate the metal scraps are squeezed out almost completely, the final briquette is made cleaner.

Metal briquetting machines typically come in several sizes, corresponding to the different diameters and different output by weight. They can be customized to make cylindrical or square briquettes. They can also be equipped to separate steel fines from non-ferrous metals.

Metal scraps are often contaminated with microscopic ferrous particles that come from the tooling used in the machining process. These ferrous contaminants can sometime create a problem in the recycling of the metal – aluminum in particular. Depending on the type of metal scraps and how the metal scraps will be fed to the briquetting machine, a hopper must be equipped to feed the machine appropriately.
